-
Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others involved with the church or organization;
-
Responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices; and
-
Seeks to actively Resist Re-traumatization.
ABOUT LORI
Lori Dixon is passionate about helping victims of trauma. This passion led her to pursue becoming certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CCISM) through the University of Maryland. As an approved instructor with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, her hope is to use what she has learned to educate others on how to be effective ministers and friends to those who need proper care in times of crisis.
Lori’s personal traumatic experiences began when she was just 2 years old and as a result, she sought out opportunities to help others from a young age. As a young adult, she spent her time volunteering with Teen Challenge, helping women in Vancouver's East side homeless community. Over the years, her passion to understand how trauma affects our body, soul and spirit, resulted in Lori pursing her own personal healing. What she learned and experienced gave her an appetite for knowledge on the inner workings of trauma and how to best serve those in the midst of it. With knowledge came freedom and restoration that she hopes to share through her diverse workshops with a special focus on Christian ministry.
In a highly traumatized society, it is important for individuals and institutions to learn how to properly serve hurting people. With good intentions, but with lack of knowledge, we can often do more harm than good.
Alongside her workshops, she also works to bring hope in crisis situations as a volunteer Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Chaplain and trainer. In her ministry over the last ten years, she has served as a speaker, trainer, author and friend, with a focus of helping broken people find freedom in their identities as children of the Most High God.
Her informative classes will reflect this focus, and her prayer is that what is learned during them will help usher in a time of healing and peace for His Church, and those who seek refuge in it.
